2)The transfert programs
Every people who got Hp48 need to transfer files from hp48
on PC (as a mean of storage) or to avoid to retype programs. There is a wire kit for it
taht you can buy and containing a floppy with Kermit (from the university of Columbia (US) in
1990). This was one of the first serial managers at this time. I consider Kermit not
accessible for common people because it is a command in line tool in english.
However kermit is great as it runs first on a lots of patforms (unix, windows, mac)
and second , the adjustement parameters are great. Like all power tools, there is alway
something worng, the protocol kermit (to exchange datas) that comme from
with the tool is too slow.(9ko takes about 5 minutes at 9600 bauds by wire and by Ir
15minutes).
The next generation protocol which is called XYModem replaces Kermit and is a ferrari (1ko
= 1 seconde!! what a revolution). To use it , you will need HP48.exe
from Karl Rousseau. (modify hp48.ini so that the path corresponds the directory of
installation). Under 48G(X), you should set up the protocol on XYModem whereas on
48S(X), you should download once xymodem.lib with kermit and then use the
library. Take care, there is a order in establishing the link- the receiver must be
ready before the emitter. In the infrared world , use the fire program : la librairie.
